    Study on the effect of Glutinous Rice Paste on the long-term strength of Xi'an Loess

    • For the restoration of ancient sites,it is necessary not only to respect the original style and techniques to preserve the historical appearance,but also to thoroughly investigate the strength characteristics of the restoration materials,particularly their long-term strength.Glutinous rice paste,as a traditional building material in ancient China,has been a research hotspot in the reinforcement of earthen sites.However,current studies on repair materials for earthen sites primarily focus on standard strength,with limited research on long-term strength and creep characteristics.This study first investigates the shear strength characteristics of Xi'an loess under varying glutinous rice paste admixture ratios through conventional direct shear tests.Subsequently,under the optimal glutinous rice past admixture ratio,this study examines the the creep behavior of Xi'an loess under direct shear with different shear stress levels and vertical pressures.Using the third yield strength theory,the long-term strength characteristics were analyzed.The main findings are as follows:After adding glutinous rice paste,the shear strength of Xi'an loess significantly improved.The addition of glutinous rice paste had minimal impact on the internal friction angle,with a variation of approximately 1°,while cohesion showed a noTab.increase.As the glutinous rice paste content increased,cohesion initially rose and then decreased.At the optimal admixture ratio,the long-term strength accounted for about 65% of the standard strength.This study on the creep characteristics and long-term strength of Xi'an loess after glutinous rice paste addition provides important theoretical support for the restoration of ancient sites.
